Poston & Yu (1985) calculated national rates of completed childlessness. 21 nations had populations greater than one million & had suicide rates available from WHO. For these 21 nations, the rates of childlessness were unrelated to male or female suicide rates. However, they were negatively correlated with homicide rates. Results of the present study clearly did not support the hypothesis that nations with higher rates of childlessness would have higher suicide rates. (5 refs.)
