Clinical characteristics of 21 psychiatric military inpatients suffering from narcissistic personality disorder were compared to 42 inpatients with other personality disorders. Narcissistic patients tended to sexually abuse children, especially stepchildren, & they were more likely to be undergoing a separation, divorce or rejection (which usually led to hospital admission because of a suicide attempt or ideation). Findings are important for military programs which address spousal & child abuse.
