In this letter to the editor, Saghir responds to a previous article by Dr. Wooldridge on geriatric suicide. Dr. Saghir concurs with Wooldridge’s assessment that major depression & the threat of suicide in older adults should never be discounted. He argues that it is imperative that major depression be recognized as a killer disease of the elderly. Therefore, depression needs to be appropriately diagnosed & treated in order to avoid the risk of suicide. (0 refs.)
