The main focus of this article is a review & analysis of recent caselaw on custodial suicide with an emphasis on federal caselaw & on jails & police lockups. The author explores in some detail the circumstances in which a custodian has a duty to take appropriate prevention action. He argues that jails & lockups should be under a broader obligation to develop broad screening measures & to implement preventive programs. (98 refs.)
