The characteristics of 46 male & 54 females inpatients who died in a general hospital psychiatric unit were studied. Although suicide was a common cause of death among the few young (under age 65) patients who died, it did not occur among the elderly. All of the patients who completed suicide had made previous attempts. (29 refs.)
