Few adult symptoms were associated with a history of childhood sexual molestation in women with somatization disorder. More patients who had been molested reported suicide attempts & a history of alcoholism. These 2 symptoms were strongly correlated: 11 of 12 alcoholic somatization disorder patients reported at least one suicide attempt compared with 28 of 48 nonalcoholic patients. Suicide attempts were reported by 90% of molested alcoholic patients & by 74% of molested, nonalcoholic patients.
