A comparative analysis was made of day of the week variations in homicide & suicide deaths among 15-24-year-old whites & blacks in the 22 American counties with the most black persons. An expected, pronounced excess of homicides on weekends, especially among white males, was found. A slight excess of suicide on Monday was observed. Young black males exhibited an unexpected excess of homicides & suicides on Thursday. Possible explanations for this phenomenon are offered. (22 refs.)
