McCafferty F L~~McCafferty E~~et al
The police officer who is subject to extraordinary stress has an increased potential for psychiatric illness, including things such as anxiety & depressive disorders. These disorders are associated with higher risks for suicide. Thus, early recognition, identification & treatment of the stressed police officer is imperative to reduce morbidity & mortality. Treatment methods that are applicable to police officers may also be applied to individuals in other stressful occupations. (14 refs.)
