Trends in suicide frequency were statistically analysed for men & women in different age groups in Stockholm County for the period 1975-1985. A statistically significant decrease in the number of suicides was seen for both sexes when the ages were pooled. However, when different age groups were analysed, decreases were not found in every group. The possibility that the decrease in suicide frequency is due to the diminished consumption of alcohol & psychopharmaca is discussed. (19 refs.)
