A study of mortality among alcoholics was carried out among patients discharged from the alcohlic ward of a Japanese hospital from 1972-1984. 1,021 patients were studied. The average age at death was 48.4 years. There were 14 suicides over the study period. The time of death for suicides, homicides & death due to disaster showed no particular relation between the number of deaths & time after discharge. (12 refs.)
