Social correlates of the suicide rates & the homicide rates by each method were explored for a sample of European nations. Differences were found, & 2 hypotheses are suggested for the results: 1) the rates by each method are a function of the relative availability of the different methods, & 2) suicide & homicide by each method might profitably be considered to be different behaviours, with their own personal & social determinants.
