This article reviews studies on schizophrenia & suicidal behavior. Most studies have shown that up to 10% of schizophrenias die by suicide, & most are young & male. Half of those the victims have previously attempted, & depression is present in 60%. A study by Drake & Cotton found that most victims display the psychological features of depression, like hopelessness, but do not show the somatic features, like poor appetite or disturbed sleep. Many also had high self-expectations. (VM)
