In this time series study, United States fertility rates from 1933 to 1984 were associated with the suicide rates of those aged 15-44. The authors found that the higher the fertility rate the lower the suicide rate for these age groups. This applied to both whites & non-whites, & to men & women. The authors conclude that the results support Durkheim’s theory of suicide. (VM)
