Alcohol Abuse, Depression, and Suicidal Behavior in Schizophrenia

Alcohol use was correlated with depression & suicidal behaviour in 2 independent studies of schizophrenic outpatients. Depression alone accounted for over 80% of the explained variance in suicidal behaviour in both studies; alcohol use along & the correlation between depression & alcohol use accounted for only small amounts of variance.
