This article discusses a study done in Ontario & Alberta about autoerotic asphyxiation, which is a sexually motivated act in which individuals engage in hanging, bondage & strangulation techniques. Over a 13-year period, 117 fatal cases were found in the 2 provinces. All the victims were male & between 10 & 56 years old. Most were white, single & hung themselves. It is impossible to determine how prevalent this practice is, since researchers can only tabulate those who die in the process. (VM)
