The present study attempted to replicate the status integration theory of suicide as it applies to marital status, for a nation with a different socio-economic context, Germany. Stronger support for the theory was found in Germany than in the United States. A weaker association for females is interpreted in terms of social networks & social integration theory. Stronger networks & kinship structures act as buffers for females against the role conflict found in the statuses of widowhood & divorce.
