This article summarizes & evaluates the book, Regulating Death: Euthanasia & the Case of The Netherlands, by Carlos F. Gomez. Gomez describes the tension between accomodating a patient’s desire for euthanasia & protecting the vulnerable, & the development of the courts of criteria for permissable euthanasia, as well as detailing specific cases. He concludes the Dutch system doesn’t adequately control euthanasia. The author commends Gomez’s account, but feels it should be more comprehensive. (VM)
