To assess whether degree of belief in afterlife enhanced bereavement recovery following differing types of death, 121 bereaved persons completed scales measuring belief in afterlife, impact of event, perceived recovery, spiritual well-being, emotional pain & social support. Suicidally bereaved individuals reported feeling less acceptance & finding less meaning in the death. The feeling of recovery seems to be enhanced by high belief in afterlife, & diminished by loss via suicide or accident.
