School & child care counsellors in 4 school districts were surveyed to determine the frequency of contact with suicidal adolescents, to document previous training & current knowledge about suicide & to describe how at-risk students came in contact with counsellors. Results showed that most counsellors dealt with suicidal students regularly; most had received some formal training about suicide & that contact was initiated by friends, through self-referral or by the counsellors, themselves.
