A school-based procedure for identifying adolescents who are seriously considering suicide is described. The procedure includes a 2-stage process that involves an initial school-wide or grade-wide administration of the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire followed by individual clinical interviews with students who score at or above a specific cutoff score. Results are presented of a validation study conducted with 121 high school students. Results support the clinical efficacy of the procedure.
