For the adolescent who is already struggling with many developmental issues, incarceration can be devastating. This chapter describes the problem of jail & police lockup suicides and presents a cooperative interagency model that has been developed in New York State specifically to address this issue. This model was designed to address significant facility, systemic & interagency factors that tend to impede the timely identification of risk factors. (13 refs.)
