Chapter
Rural Communities (IN: Planning to Live: Evaluating and Treating Suicidal Teens in Community Settings, ed. by M J Rotheram-Borus et al)
Houchin S K
Some of the questions addressed in this chapter include: 1) who is working with rural youth today; 2) to whom can rural youth turn if they fear their parents might commit suicide, or if they, themselves, are thinking of suicide; & 3) can urban agencies truly understand the problems that rural youths face. The author stresses the importance of networking because of the lack of services available for rural populations. These networks must include community members & professionals. (23 refs.)
