21 borderline patients (in accordance with Gunderson) who had committed suicide were compared with matched borderline patients who stayed alive. The suicide group had more frequent childhood loss, lack of treatment contact before hospitalization, longer hospitalization, & they were more frequently discharged for violating the treatment contract. These variables were combined into a predictive model for suicide in borderline patients. (15 refs.)
