This article discusses the controversory over the use of the antidepressant, fluoxetine. Fluoxetine increases the level of serotonin, & a deficiency in serotonin has been associated with suicidal behavior in numerous studies. The authors review the studies on serotonin & suicidal behavior, as well as studies on antidepressants & suicidal & aggressive behavior, & studies specifically on fluoxetine. They conclude by describing the implications for research & for clinicians. (VM)
