Intercultural Variation in Mortality due to Violence (IN: Current Perspectives in Cultural Psychiatry, ed. by E F Foulks et al)
Kraus R~~Buffler P
The authors present data illustrating the changing patterns of mortality in various peoples & cultures of Alaska during 1950-1974 with specific reference to deaths due to violence in the form of accidents, suicides, homicides & alcohol. Violence was found to be the leading cause of death in Alaska among all populations. Among non-natives deaths due to suicide had decreased over the last 10 years, while the pattern among natives saw increases in all 4 categories of violent death. (6 refs.)
