This article reviews the literature on mental health & depression among ethnic/minority elderly in the U.S. (with emphasis on Hispanics, Blacks, & Natives), as well as cognitive, cutural & personality characteristics which may influence reactions to therpists, therapy, & the use of mental health services. Suicide patterns for all 3 major groups are briefly described. The authors found that most minorities avoid the mental health system.
