In this study, 2465 adolescents were tested on the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) in a 2-stage epidemiological study. A structured psychiatric interview was completed with 332 mother-adolescent pairings. Adolescents with interview validated depression had elevated test scores compared with individuals with no disorder. The authors also found moderate correlations between suicide screening & the CES-D scores in the total sample.
