3 letters to the editor discuss previously reported findings on suicide in Scotland (see SIEC #911041). The first 2 letters argue that the inclusion of deaths of people not resident in Scotland could have artificially inflated figures. The 3rd letter notes that the suicide rate in rural Northern Ireland was opposite to that found in Scotland by Dr. Crombie & also cautions against comparing rates of suicide across the British Isles because of the potential variability in statistical coding.
