Interventions to reduce distress after testing for HIV were analyzed. Subjects were randomly either given counselling, counselling & a 3-session video program, or counselling & 6 sessions on stress prevention. Subjects were test for distress at entry & 3 months later. For the HIV-negative subjects, distress decreased after all 3 interventions. For HIV-positive subjects, distress decreased after the stress prevention training & did not increase in the other 2 interventions. (VM)
