In this two-part study, 1542 adolescents 12-14 years old were given a depression scale, suicide scale, life-event schedule, & family environment scale. Students with high depression scores & a random sample of remaining students were interviewed with their mothers. Rates for suicidal ideation & attempted suicide in males & females are provided. Significant correlations were found between major depression, undesirable life events, ideation & suicide attempts.(See AN 950175 for study corrections.)
