Tanaka-Matsumi & Kameoka (1986) had questioned the use of popular depression instruments in the assessment of college students due to the high correlation between these scales. The present study also found significant correlations between the self-report instruments & suicidal behaviors. This may be due to the fact that anxiety & depression are often found together in clinical settings, & that the content of depression & anxiety scales is not specific to those constructs. (18 refs.)
