The author of this article asserts that the use of epidemiological methods can aid in understanding suicide among the aged. International statistical comparisons are presented, as well as a review of various studies. Social factors such as class, occupational status, economic status, war, economic depression, social isolation & social role are discussed. The differences between elderly suicide victims & those in other age groups are examined. (VM)
