Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, trailing only auto accidents & drug overdoses. Each of these is closely related to the abuse of drugs & alcohol. In the case of suicide, the use of mood-altering chemicals can cause a teenager to take action on suicidal impulses that may have otherwise passed with time. The author examines the many factors that contribute to these impulses, including the use of alcohol & drugs. (0 refs.)
