Provides a review of the early years of college mental health, with particular emphasis on events at Yale University. The development of the Division of Mental Hygiene is sketched from its initiation in 1925 to more recent times. The history of quantitative studies of mental health from the 1920s is also presented, including epidemiological studies of the prevalence & incidence of psychiatric disorders in the college setting & of college student suicide.
