201 undergraduates were administered a phrase preference test & the Beck Depression Inventory & were asked whether they had ever considered or attempted suicide. Data confirmed an observation by Thomas & Duzynski (see PA, Vol. 73: 4046) that spinning phrases were correlated with prior suicidal ideation. Numbers of phrases, however, were not correlated with depression scores. (2 refs.)
