This article criticizes the research methodology used by Shaffer et al in their study which questioned the merit of current school prevention programs. The authors criticize, for example, that Shaffer et al. only evaluated 2 programs, & based their negative results only on the reaction of the groups of students who had attempted suicide. They agree with Shaffer et al. that more research is necessary, but conclude that Shaffer’s research is questionable & unclear. (VM)
