This letter to the editor is a response to an earlier letter criticizing a study by Murphy & Robins (1967) concerning interpersonal loss & suicide among alcoholics. The author had criticized Murphy for methodological problems. In this letter, Murphy defends his study, although admitting that further research needs to be done. (VM)
