This Alberta study of medical examiners used simulated cases in order to examine the variation in certification judgements among medical examiners. The influence of the characteristics of medical examiners & of victim characteristics were investigated. Experience, residence & the religion of examiners were found to be related to judgements, as were the gender, medical cause of death, & the presence of alcohol in victims. (VM)
