This article describes a 24-hour crisis telephone line operating in France. The service is operated by volunteers & semi-professional leaders, & advised by psychiatrists, psychoanalysts & psychologists. The author makes a few observations about callers to the crisis line, for example, that suicide is only a symptom of the problem, & aggression & a desire to get away from it all are common emotions. A study in French is also included. (VM)
