Reports 2 cases of suicide by related kidney donors following graft rejection & the recipients’ death. In one case, a 51-yr-old man donated a kidney to his brother & in the other, a 48 yr-old-man donated a kidney to his son. Concludes that psychiatric screening of the donor before transplantation is necessary. A psychiatric evaluation after transplantation is indicated following graft rejection & death of the recipient to assess the development of depression & suicidal ideation by the donor.
