12 cases of attempted suicide by firearms, all of which resulted in facial injuries, are outlined. The extent of soft & hard tissue injuries is presented for each case. Depression was the most common emotional state preceding the attempt, & 4 patients were under the influence of alcohol. The medical treatment & plastic surgery required are detailed. Statistics on common methods of suicide in Sweden, & contributing factors to the attempts are provided. (VM)
