This article discusses the connection between alcoholism in the elderly, accidents & suicide. The author explains that most accidents due to alcoholism among the elderly frequently occur at home, & are often not attributed to alcoholism, but to the “impairments of old age”. The suicide rate of alcoholics is 5 to 10 times greater than the rate aomon the nonalcoholic population, & 15 to 30% of the elderly abuse alcohol. (VM)
