Investigated quantitative EEG correlates of severe crack cocaine dependence as defined in the DSM-III-R in 7 patients (mean age 24.6 yrs) abstinent from cocaine for 1 to 68 days. The major EEG finding was increased absolute & relative alpha power. Ss showed significant depressive morbidity: 4 Ss had attempted suicide subsequent to initiating their use of crack, & the group mean Beck Depression Scale score was suggestive of significant depressive morbidity.
