Provides guidelines for clinical practice focusing on those aspects of clinical practice most often criticized by the courts in findings of malpractice against mental health professionals. Specific areas of malpractice litigation (negligent diagnosis & failure to take precautions against suicide) are addressed. Ways in which the clinician can best insulate himself/herself from such suits are discussed, with an emphasis on careful assessment & documentation of that assessment. (1 ref.)
