This study investigated the association between state handgun control laws & state suicide rates, while controlling for gender, age, population density, etc. A multiple regression analysis indicated that suicide rates were significantly lower in states with low divorce rates, low crime rates, & stringent firearm control laws, which affected both the sellers & buyers of handguns. The variables accounted for 69% of the differences among suicide rates. (VM)
