Grandjean et al (1985) found that workers exposed to heavy doses of fluoride between 1924-40 had a higher rate of suicide in a follow-up study in 1981. The present study correlated the percentage of each state’s population drinking fluoridated water at the end of 1975 with the homicide & suicide rates of that state. When controlling for longitude, results indicated that the more people drinking fluoridated water, the lower the suicide rate. Homicide rates did not vary with water fluoridation.
