Police suicide rates are much higher than the general population. Police also have higher divorce rates, alcoholism, & lower life expectency. There are few occupations which are as stressful & provide such easy assess to a quick means to die. This newspaper article describes the 2 suicides of Toronto policemen, as well as an emergency assistance program which was set up in 1986. The program has not been effective because of police officers’ unwillingness to seek help. (VM)
