This study investigates the role depressive disorders play in the genesis of suicidal behavior in alcoholics. 3 groups of hospitalized alchoholics were examined: patients who had attempted suicide, who had sucidal ideation, or who had neither suicidal behavior or ideation. The MADRS & MMPI scales were used to evaluate depressive disorders. The results show that suicidal alcoholics have significantly more depressive characteristics than the other 2 groups. (VM)
