The Commonalities of Suicide Across the Life Span (IN: Life Span Perspectives of Suicide: Time-Lines in the Suicide Process, ed. by A A Leenaars)
Shneidman E S
This article provides 10 commonalities of suicide, such as : the common purpose of suicide is to seek a solution; the common emotion is helplessness/hopelessness; & the common consistency in suicide is lifelong coping patterns. The author also outlines a model of suicide, with pressure, pain & perturbation as the main variables. He hopes this type of formula can help create empirically-based prevention processes. (VM)
