This article describes the general stages of development from infancy to late adulthood to help in understanding suicide throughout the life span. For example, infants begin to interact socially with others, particularly parents & siblings. This brings about one of their first learning issues: whether to trust or mistrust others. Older adults need to adjust to abandonment by family members, as their children grow up & move away, or as they become widowed. (VM)
